Derby Party for a horse lover.

My daughter loves all things horse related! Her favorite movie to watch is Disney’s Secretariat. For her 11th birthday she wanted a Secretariat party so we decided to host a Derby Party. We didn’t really want to go with traditional Kentucky Derby party colors and ideas because we were trying to make it a bit more original. We decided to create our own Derby…let’s just pretend the triple crown has a secret 4th crown that no one really knows about…lol.

When the girls arrived they made their own Derby hats and had snacks and fancy drinks (pink lemonade in champagne glasses). They then went (upstairs) to the grand stand where they watched the movie Secretariat on the big screen. Lucky for me I have an awesome nephew who let us borrow his totally cool projector! Those things are sooo cool! It was so much fun listening to them scream and cheer on Secretariat in the races…lol.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Later the girls had cake, opened presents and then worked on a super easy horse shoe yarn wrapping craft. As they get older it can become harder and harder to come up with ideas for birthday parties. Just remember to make it something they love and keep it simple and they will have a great time! There was tons of giggling…that’s always the sign of a great party right? 🙂
